January 12th at 7:00pm: another “Neck of the Woods” evening

January 9 update: The musician Jon Savary has been substituted in the January Neck of the Woods lineup for the group String Theory. Jon is from Waterboro, Maine, where he grew up playing music from an early age. He eventually relocated to Raleigh, NC with his family where he co-founded his current band, Red Sky Moon.

Happy New Year! Neck of the Woods is excited to announce a great start to 2013 with some fabulous local artists! Come out on Saturday, January 12th at 7:00pm and enjoy readings from author and television crime reporter Amanda Lamb. Also performing is String Theory, a group of orchestra students that use their talents to play a wide variety of music. Returning to the Neck of the Woods stage is the energetic and very talented blues duo Lightning James and Mississippi Mike. The show is free to all, but we do suggest a $5 per person donation to support these great artists and their work. This month we are back home at the Wake Forest Coffee Company. The performance will be held upstairs. Please come a few minutes early so that you won’t miss any of these talented performers.

The Neck of the Woods Performance Series is a variety art show featuring the work of local performing artists. Featured Artists for January, 2013:
String Theory – Composed of four Wake Forest Rolesville High School orchestra students, the members of String Theory put their own spin on a wide variety of music. From Bach to Beatles, Greenday to One Republic these talented artists deliver performances that delight audiences of all ages. The group features: Issac Prentice and Brandon Daugherty on cello, Caitlyn Chojnacki on violin, and Chaska Moon on bass.

Amanda Lamb is a television crime reporter for WRAL-TV and the author of seven books including I Love You to God and Back, an inspirational parenting book that comes in an adult and a children’s version (February 2013). Her other parenting humor books include Girls Gone Child and Smotherhood. Amanda also writes true crime books based on the cases she covers. They include Love Lies, Evil Next Door and Deadly Dose. She lives in the Triangle with her husband and two daughters.

“Lighting James and Mississippi Mike” are a Blues Duo consisting of Lighting James on Vocals and Guitar and Mississippi Mike on Harmonica.This dynamic High Energy Blues Duo play an array of Blues Music from Robert Johnson to Muddy Waters as well as original tunes written by Lightnin’ James.Lightnin’ James has played Blues Music all over the world and is considered one of the Best Blues Artist in The Triangle of North Carolina. Mississippi Mike won “The Cape fear Blues Challenge” in 2008 along with another singer song writer and they were sent to Memphis to compete in The International Blues Competition.” Lighting James and Mississippi Mike” have a very unique sound. Their instruments and raw talent blend together producing a highly contagious Blues Music experience.
