December, 2012 “Neck of the Woods” evening announcement

Our last show in 2012! What a great season it has been for Neck of the Woods! To celebrate, we are having our biggest show yet. Come out on Saturday, December 8th at 7:00pm. The Triangle Area Community Orchestra will be playing, dancers from the Jill M. Taylor Dance Company will be performing excerpts from their full-length production of The Nutcracker, and Wake Forest’s emerging community theater called Forest Moon Theater will make their debut. We are also happy to have some local visual artists displaying their work. Due to the size of this show, we have temporarily moved down the street to The Event Gallery at The Cotton Company. Many thanks to the folks there for having us! Wine and beer as well as other refreshments will be available. This particular performance is family friendly. The show is free to all, but we do suggest a $5 per person donation to support these great artists and their work. Please come a few minutes early so that you won’t miss any of these talented performers. We hope to see you there!

Featured Artists:

Jill M. Taylor Dance Company is a 501 C3 non-profit organization. The company’s goal is to spread appreciation of the arts by providing public performance opportunities to talented dancers of all ages and to offer the community the opportunity to enjoy classical ballet in a family-friendly setting at a reasonable cost. Dancers ranging in age from three to adult perform in this full-length production of the Nutcracker while furthering their dance discipline, technique, and education. Dancers from Raleigh, Wake Forest, Youngsville, Rolesville, Henderson and Durham audition and participate in our Nutcracker. Professional dancers are hired to perform the leading roles of the Sugar Plum Fairy and the Cavalier. These professionals rehearse with Jill M. Taylor Dance Company, so our dancers get to experience working with professional dancers. This year’s performance will be held at Wakefield High School on Saturday, December 15th at 2 and 6 PM. Tickets are $15 each.

Introducing the Forest Moon Theater! Finally, Wake Forest has its own community theater, the Forest Moon Theater. Formed in 2012, and with plans to open the first season in 2013, Forest Moon Theater is a nonprofit organization with a 3-E delivery for Wake Forest: entertainment, engagement, and education. The theater’s mission is to stage theatrical productions that offer entertainment of the highest quality, to engage the local community in the process, and to provide theater-sponsored classes and workshops for people of all ages, believing as we do that the ability to present yourself to an audience is a skill that brings rewards in your work as well as your personal life.

The Triangle Area Community Orchestra (TACO) was founded in the summer of 2010 under the direction of Marta C. Findlay-Partridge. TACO is a community orchestra of volunteer non-professional musicians whose members have a great love of music. We are a small chamber orchestra of about 30 members and hope to one day include other orchestral instruments. Many of us have learned to play instruments as adults or are returning to instruments as adults. At this time we practice at the Meredith College School of Music in Raleigh, North Carolina, through its beginning orchestral program directed by Marta C. Findlay-Partridge.
